These days have been a mix of snow and warm weather and rain. Mother nature has decided to have many mood swings this year, it seems. On some of the colder days, I decided to look up some patterns for knitted headbands/turbans, as I don't really have a hat that keeps the cold out - kind of a problem, I'd say.
So I found this pattern online but I thought to myself, hey now - do I really need to purchase it? It seems pretty straight forward. I am nowhere near being a decent knitter, but I know a simple ribbing pattern when I see it. Toss in a few increases & decreases & you have yourself an ear warmer. I decided to give it a try and after scribbling on a paper for a while, I figured out where to place my increases (The time it takes me to do simple math is rather embarrassing, but I blame my left handedness!)
After watching a few wonderful how-to videos on how to hold my yarn (Errr...No, I haven't been knitting like a child would up 'til now...) my ear warmer was knit up rather quickly! I wanted to murder the seaming process (I made 4 attempts, by jove!) and learned a few things from my mistakes. Can't tell if I should keep it or just make another attempt at it. Thoughts?
Don't mind the drab face. I feel awkward staring at a camera if nobody is taking the photo.
In other news I have begun to watch Downton Abbey. Am in love so far, but holy moly does it have to be so damned emotional?? I'm certain it's sponsored by tissue companies, all the tears that fall when viewing the show have to be caught and cleaned up somehow! I don't actually even cry when watching it...but if I let myself...yikes.
For now,
G xx

You are such a talented knitter! It's so well crafted and looks far better than the bogus ones you can buy in shops these days! I like the casual knitter jargon you've thrown in there too! hehe 'ya know just an increase you knowwww!' :( i do not know what an increase is!
ReplyDeleteOhhh! Downton is so good isn't it?! I want to be Sybil, she is a doll! I know the man who plays Thomas :O not very well though i should probably add! He used to act in this soap called Coronation Street which is filmed in my home-town. It's strange to me cos the Liam, the man he used to play, was the sweetest man ever! And Thomas is plain mean O_O.
Oooohhhh I did some internet snooping to find some links so you could watch and experience the wonder that is MIDSOMER MURDERS! Please watch it if you have a spare moment (umm ok 2 hours but it's worth it!) it is my all-time favourite show! It reminds me of my country bumpkin childhood sob sob (sans the murders though!) http://www.fastpasstv.ms/tv/midsomer-murders/season-14/episode-5/ if you enjoy it say the word and i will find you more/post you my boxset! You must watch the ones before they replaced the original lead detective too! Tom Barnaby was a babe <3
You look dreamy here as per usual! I want to stroke your kitten-soft hair <3
ps i went and got myself an LJ (i am trying to fit in and use the 'lingo' hehe) im still not 100% to grips with it yet! I dont understand how to creep around other people's pages for instance? Any tips?! Here's my page thingy :D http://mathildagrace.livejournal.com/
Oh you are far too kind! Haha an increase is just adding more stitches so it gets bigger! It was supposed to go from small to larger...but I didn't add enough stitches so it doesn't really have the effect I wanted (Like in the link I shared of what I based it off of ^^) Anyhow, it's warm so I guess that's all that matters!
ReplyDeleteDownton is sooooooooooooo good, but dear god, every episode makes you sad! Even happy to the point of tears! WHY!? Sybil is the greatest, and do you really know Thomas? Hehe my gran watches Coronation Street religiously, but I've never seen an episode. It's sort of uncomfortable when someone goes from playing this really nice character to playing a jerk, isn't it?! I will say he does it VERY WELL! Along with that other woman that is his side kick (Err, I can't keep track of names at all) she's so evil!!!
You are the bessssssst! I will try to watch it today, or at least in parts! Thanks for the link!
Lastly - you are hilarious. I look rather ridiculous in these photos, I wasn't taking them to impress, I just really wanted to show my headband. lol Terrible I know, I'm not meant for the blogging world, I should have had on makeup and a better outfit ;)
Hi there, pretty lady! Your handknitted headwrap is adorable. I think it's just perfect. :] For that extra something, maybe you could add a detail like this next time: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ZLr5TZyEI1g/TTECnbNVx3I/AAAAAAAAACE/IyW3RM45VFw/s400/knitted+headband.jpg

I actually have that very same photo in a folder titled "Inspiration" ahaha!(Can't believe I just admitted that but there you have it!)
DeleteI made one like that before but the wool was disgusting and I threw it out after a while. You're right though! Maybe I should add the middle bit on since I am rather iffy about it right now...thanks for the advice! ^^ Or at least make one like that 'cause let's face it, my knitting will most likely never exceed past scarves & headbands, hehe
you did a wonderful job!
